The basic premise behind the anger management workshop is to train the participant some basic methods to control angry outbursts. The workshops are not therapeutic sessions where other issues the angry individual is experiencing are evaluated. The workshop generally will run at maximum for a twelve week period and a normal session may last for ninety minutes or possibly longer. If the workshop group is relatively large than the workshop may be conducted using a lecture hall style format. Smaller workshops generally are run for up to eight participants.
At the first session of the anger management workshop you will be given an outline of what the course will cover and what you are expected to do as a member of the group. You may be given a workbook and handouts that cover course materials. In a small group setting it is usual to ask each member of the group to share a little about themselves and what they hope to achieve by attending.
Many individuals want to know what they may expect when attending an anger management workshop. Generally at the first session of the workshop you are provided with an outline of what will take place. You are given a work book and any other materials that are pertinent to the course. Also, when the workshop group is relatively small it is not unusual for the workshop instructor to ask each person to divulge a little bit of personal information about him or herself to the rest of the participants and what he or she hopes to have accomplished by the end of the course.
Naturally if anger management workshop is very large it is not as likely individuals will share his or her personal information and reasons for being in attendance. However, as is with many large audience learning formats there is time devoted to a questions and answer session. Members of the audience inquire about circumstances that are significant to him or her. Audio and video tools are used in the training process.
The anger management workshop will help you recognize the following:
1. What happens to you physically when you experience angry feelings.
2. What thoughts you may possess when you become angry and how to think differently.
3. Why it is important to take responsibility for your actions.
Additionally during an anger management workshop you will learn deep breathing and relaxation techniques; how to be a better listener; how alcohol and drugs may cause you to become angry and how to develop techniques in order to minimize angry feelings.
